In today’s world, a million things are fighting for your attention at any given moment. It can be easy to lose yourself in the noise and get caught up in material concerns, letting your connection with the Lord fall by the wayside. These three Christian meditation techniques will help you center yourself and experience a deeper walk with the Lord.
There are many ways to gain a deeper understanding of a single verse. Try journaling the verse by writing it out and including your name in it. This will help you be specific as to how the verse relates to you. Another way to meditate on a verse or passage of Scripture is to read it in different translations and see if your understanding of it becomes more clear.
The psalms are an intrinsically beautiful way to express your worship. Go through the Book of Psalms and find a specific psalm that fits your situation. Work on memorizing parts of the psalm or the entire psalm, and recite it in prayer to reinforce what God says. You can also try singing the psalm or reciting it as poetry.
Music has power — it can make you feel happy when you’re sad, or calm when you’re overwhelmed. To help prepare your heart for a time of prayer, use quiet instrumental music. This can help you take the time you need to express your heart, thoughts, and concerns to God. For additional atmosphere, you can combine the music with soothing ambience or ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) such as rushing water or a calm forest.
These three meditation activities for Christians can help you connect with God, but it’s not an exhaustive list by any means. Take the time to figure out what helps you meditate, because what works for others may not work for you. At the end of the day, it’s your own connection to God you are nurturing.
