In the Bible, we are commanded to serve the body of Christ, which is the Church. For some congregations, there are a lot of possibilities for offering your service, and you want to make the best decision you possibly can. Here are some things you should consider when trying to find a place to serve in the Church.
Understanding our biblical responsibility in helping the Church allows you to explore where you are needed in the body of Christ. As a first step, reach out to your pastors and other church leaders and express your desire to help in a way that will fill a need.
A Bible study class or Christian Meditation class may be in the offering. And if interested, find out if there is an official way to enter a certain ministry. There will always be areas where more help or attention is needed in every congregation.
You can also think about where you can best serve in the Church based on your gifts. Take a class on spiritual gifts to discover what they are. You should also consider what you gravitate towards in service. As believers, God gifts us in ways that build up the body of Christ.
Although you may lean toward one particular spiritual gift, it does not necessarily mean that this is where you should be serving. There are many areas of service that are crucial to the Church, and there is no doubt that you will find a place to serve. You may need to test whether a particular gift is where you excel. Ask to be a volunteer for a while to see if that particular ministry is where you belong. Then pray and ask God for guidance.
What matters most as you search for your calling is how you can best help the Church thrive. We hope these tips help you find your place to serve in Church.
