The Stoicess’ Poem: Knowing Your Worth on the Job

The Stoicess’ Poem: Knowing Your Worth on the Job.

A second boss asked for my help, and my boss approved.
However, a month later, my boss said I’m being reproved.

My boss said my work might be good enough for the second boss’s hands,
but my efforts for my boss are slacking according to the newly laid plans.

I had no control over the situation I was in;
I figured it was best to be silent and just take it on the chin.

But my boss couldn’t help theirself, and would not stop,
even pushed the second boss to see if agreement could be reached on a personnel swap.

As Jesus responded to Pilate with “You have said so” when asked if He was King,
I responded to my boss with “You have said so” when asked if it was the second boss to whom I would cling.

For I realized the two boss’s judgments of their wants for me now differed,
but I decided this wasn’t my dogfight and would not let my demeanor wither.

In the end, the second boss offered me a job,
said I stayed peaceful when with most, such an occurrence would make their hearts throb.

I then thanked Jesus for teaching me calmness,
knowing what I can control, and what I cannot, when things seem so ominous.
