The Stoicess’ Poem: People Playing with My Emotions.

I met with a difficult person the other day,
and as usual, during the meeting, began to feel all gray.

The meeting started with exceedingly much praise,
but once I let my guard down, their eyes turned and became ablaze.

I sat back in my chair, attempting to gain my composure,
however, it was too late, they now had me in their enclosure.

With my emotions, they played most heartily,
their attention to detail and the release of their arrows quite artily.

Inadequacy overcame me as I began to see their vanity,
I searched my mind for some release from all this insanity.

The Lord’s words to Samuel then came to me like a hymn,
“Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him”.

“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
These words gave me comfort, and it was time this meeting had a restart.

I realized that when times are good, I get their goading, their nitpicking,
as they attempt to keep my brilliant mind from clicking.

However, when times are haywire, and serious thought is needed,
they turn to me in an instant, begging for my help so their path can become unimpeded.

For I am their confidence, I am their strength,
they just can’t accept my brilliance and must keep me at an arm’s length.

So, as the flaying ended, and their quiver of arrows emptied,
I knew it was now my turn, and I gave them an important issue needing to be preempted.

The mood of the room immediately changed,
and the earlier negative tone of the meeting rearranged.

For now, I was needed, praised as the hero once more.
By God’s hand, I left the meeting with a new assignment, along with my dignity in hand as before.
