4 Great Psalms for Your Meditation Sessions

We all experience anxiety at one time or another in our lives. It doesn’t matter if you’re feeling anxious because of a job interview, a presentation, or other life stressors in our relationships. Anxiety can feel overwhelming.

The anxiety in your life can be a very debilitating problem. If you are anxious, it will be difficult for you to live an ordinary life. When you are anxious, you are more likely to worry. By being worried, you’ll likely avoid doing things that you normally like doing, such as exercising and interacting with other Christians.

Instead, you may keep yourself locked up in the house and become that couch potato often spoke of.  This will lead to your mental stability declining and general health suffering. Each day that passes, your isolation will draw you deeper and deeper into that inner mental hole that has no exit sign or off-ramp. In a nutshell, anxiety is crippling and can be difficult to shake.

However, as a Christian, you are one of the few that has hope. One of the best things you can do is to get to know God even better. God has the power to take away your anxiety. He is also able to give you peace and hope. Your faith in God will help you to stay calm when you are feeling anxious.

In fact, people who pray for God’s help usually feel less anxious. You may not always feel “the calm” immediately when you are praying. However, your prayers will give you comfort, and as time passes, you will feel calmer.

And the more you meditate on God’s word and pray, the more you will feel like you are getting closer to God. In turn, your mind will feel more at ease. The arrow on that exit sign will be blinking with the off-ramp door wide open and lit with the shining light from God’s Word.

So, as a Christian, you have a powerful tool in your corner to help. It’s The Bible – God’s Word. You simply need to turn to the Bible and learn to meditate on God’s word.

Where should you begin your journey of meditation when turning to the Bible for help?

I suggest the Bible offers some of the greatest solaces in its Psalms, which often speak to the deep struggles of the human heart.

I’ve compiled 4 Psalms for your meditation sessions that can help alleviate your stress by taking solace in God’s plan.

Let’s begin your journey of meditating on God’s Word.

1. Psalm 121:1-4

This psalm reassures us that God is our protector and that He will never leave or forsake us. It’s a reminder that we can always trust in God, no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in.

(Psalm 121:1-4) “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”

This is one of my favorite verses for when I am feeling anxious. It reminds me that God is always with me and watching over me, no matter what I’m going through. I don’t have to worry about anything because He has everything under control.

2. Psalm 23

(Psalm 23) “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

Psalm 23 is one of the most popular and well-loved Psalms, and for good reason. It is a profound expression of trust in God, even amid difficult circumstances.

It is a beautiful and comforting reminder that God is always with us, even in our darkest moments. This Psalm has been a source of strength and hope for centuries and continues to offer comfort to those struggling with anxiety today.

3. Psalm 94:19-22

(Psalm 94:19-22) “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. Can a corrupt throne be allied with you— a throne that brings on misery by its decrees? The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.”

The psalmist writes that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. In spite of the fact that the earth may shift and shake, we will not be afraid. Let the earth rejoice and let all its people be glad, for the Lord is coming to judge everyone. He will judge us with justice and fairness.

4. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate,  a time for war and a time for peace.”

This psalm is a song of praise to God for his blessings and mercy. It is an expression of thankfulness for all that God has done for the psalmist, his family, and his people.

When dealing with anxiety, we should remember that there is a time for everything; a season for every activity under heaven. To be anxious about tomorrow is to forget that God has promised to take care of us.

Closing Comments:

When you feel anxiety coming on, you need to take action and alleviate that draining feeling. Fortunately, there is a powerful tool that can help. That tool is called the Bible.

You need to read some verses of God’s Word from the Bible when feeling anxious. The Bible is one of the most powerful tools to help you cope with anxiety. So, meditate on God’s Word and subside your worries.

And if you’d like some insurance to help protect you initially before anxiety takes a gripping hold on your life, I suggest a passage from the book of Romans that you should read every day when you arise. Apostle Paul says as Christians, we are to “meditate on these things”. If you do this, you will experience peace and a better life because you’ll be nipping that ugly monster, Anxiety, in the bud.

Here are Paul’s words:

(Philippians 4:8) “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

So, use the above truths to trust Him completely for yourself and those around you.
