Read through the Entire Bible in a Year: Custom Bible Reading Plans

February 17, 2023

Did you know you can read through the bible in a year? You can read through the Bible in a year if you take only four chapters at a time.

The easiest way to do this is to do four chapters a day. Just read one chapter in the morning, one chapter in the afternoon, one chapter in the evening, and one chapter before you go to bed. That way, you can finish the entire book within a year. You can start anywhere in the book and end anywhere.

You will have 1,189 chapters to go through in 365 days, but with a good plan, it will not be as overwhelming as it sounds.

Choose a Bible Reading Plan

If you know you want to read the whole Bible, most start with the book of Genesis and work their way through to the last book, which is Revelation. The reason is that they are following the text in the way it was written by following the sequence in chronological order.

However, you can also read the whole Bible chronologically based on the sequence of events. Even better, you can follow the historical events in the bible as they occurred. For instance, Job came before Abraham, and you can integrate the book of Job into Genesis.

You can also choose to read a chapter in the Old Testament followed by a chapter in the New Testament. This way, you will read the Old Testament once, and the New Testament a few times before the year ends.

Once you choose a plan, go ahead and create a reading schedule. You can always change your plan – especially if you get carried away by a certain book.

Divide the Bible Into 365 Readings

How much time do you have to read every day? Do you have more time on weekends? Your daily schedule will determine how much you read every day. You can start here:

  • Create weekly reading plans and schedules
  • Create monthly reading goals
  • Adjust your plan if your schedule changes
  • Register in an online system that allows you to track your progress

Start Your Bible Reading Today

You can start any time of the year, as long as you keep track of the days and the readings. You can use the format below:

  • Divide the 1,189 chapters of the Bible so that you can read an equal number of chapters every day
  • Divide the chapters of the bible by 52 so that you will have an equal number of chapters to read each week. This is ideal if your schedule is not static and there are days you have more time to read more.
  • Identify passages in the bible and assign days or weeks you will be reading these passages. For instance, you can start with the creation story, move to Moses, Abraham, Job, and other passages chronologically, or as the events happened in history.
  • Adjust your bible reading plan as your schedule allows.
