3 Powerful Tips for Memorizing Scripture & Conforming Your Mind to Christ

Memorizing Bible verses will strengthen your faith and implant the truth into your mind for easy reference when you need it most. In the Book of John, Jesus said “you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free”. We could explore John 8 and see that the reference to “freedom” that Jesus makes here means freedom from sin.

Accepting Jesus and His message means accepting His message as the truth and obeying Him. Unboxing that topic is not the focus of this blog post, but it should be mentioned.

There are several ways to improve your memorization of Bible verses.

Use Note Cards

Use note cards to write the name of the book, the chapter, and the verse number of the Scripture you want to memorize on one side and the actual verse on the other side. You can do this yourself for any verse you want to memorize or you could buy Bible flashcards from a retailer.

If you buy flashcards, you won’t always have a card for what you’re currently studying or trying to memorize.

Review these cards regularly throughout the day. You can even place additional verse cards with the same Scripture on them and strategically place them in different areas of your house like the bathroom mirror, or on top of your pillow. This way, you’re continually reminded of them.

Set a Specific Time for Memorizing Scripture

Adding a specific time to your schedule for Bible memorization will help you achieve your goal. Creating a routine or habit is nurtured by setting a specific time. This way, your practicing continually what the Bible commands us to do, which is to meditate on the Bible day and night (Joshua 1:8).

Memorize Select Passages

Christians overcome certain trials and bad habits through memorizing and applying the Bible as we meditate on God’s word. For any besetting sin, make it a point to commit passages to memory that deal with the sin. This will change your mindset about it and help you grow.

Memorizing Scripture is a powerful way to recognize what God wants of us as His children. Use it as a way to apply what the Bible teaches to your life and you’ll be growing in no time.
