What Does Bible Study Accomplish?

Bible study is one of the primary spiritual disciplines of a serious Christian. When you make it a habit to read through the Bible passages regularly, pray about it, study through commentaries, and also apply the passage to your own life, it can be a source of great blessing and encouragement in your life as a Christian.

That said, what does Bible study accomplish? Here are three significant gains you’ll experience through a deliberate daily pattern of systematic Bible study.

Bible Study Helps Us Grow Spiritually

Bible study has many benefits for a spiritually growing Christian. By studying the Bible regularly, we become smarter, wiser, and more accurate in our understanding of God, just as a few examples. No matter what kind of spiritual growth we are trying to achieve, prayerful Bible study is the best way to begin.

Provides Nourishment to Our Faith

As Christians, we are all aware of the importance of nourishment. The church helps facilitate this with Bible study, where a deeper understanding of God’s Word can be gained. Like Apostle Peter said: “As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation.” (1 Peter 2:2).

Without nourishment, our faith can become distorted and stunted.

Helps Us Avoid Sin and Live in Holiness

The Bible is a source of spiritual transformation. As we study God’s word, it shows us the difference between right and wrong, good and evil, strengthens our faith in Christ, and teaches us how to live for God. With every word, every sentence, every verse, and every chapter, we become more like Christ. From there, it directs our lives away from sin and toward holiness.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Bible study makes us better disciples, helps us understand God more clearly, and strengthens us to be more effective in our service to God. However, as mentioned above, we should accompany it with prayer, reading helpful resources, and planning to apply the Word of God in our daily lives. Otherwise, we won’t reap all the benefits it has to offer. If you are interested in joining a Christian Meditation group see Stoic Matchmaker.
