Thinking About Intercultural Dating At The Office? – Stoicess’ Poem

You met at the office some years back,
They’re cute, they’re funny, and lucky you – they have a nice looking six pack.

They see the world through a different lens.
A little like you, so you quickly become friends.

The two of you are now dating and marriage comes to mind,
but dating someone different from your past flames makes you wonder if your relationship might be misaligned.

For example, he asked the grocery clerk where he could find a buggy.
The clerk looked at him like he was nutty.

And on leaving work the other day, he commented he was putting on his toboggan,
as another employee teased him that one doesn’t put sleds on their noggin.

But as the relationship developed, you wanted to adopt a little pig as an indoor pet,
Your eyebrow raised when he told you, “No pigs inside” and he was dead set.

So, you begin to realize that subtle differences between two people in how they were raised can be problematic,
and it will be difficult for either of you to change even if you attempt to be diplomatic.

For he’s a farm boy and you were raised in the city,
he wants you feeding the hogs alongside him, whereas your interest is in staying pretty.

And he sees you dressing the meat that he brings home from making a kill,
why can’t he be like your past city guys and spend his weekend time cooking on the grill.

In the end, you realize it will be a difficult task to get the two of you to ever meet in the middle,
but keeping him as a trusted friend that is quite different from others, gives you a new perspective to a different life that will be a constant riddle.
