It’s Friday, an hour before quitting, and the boss needs a five-page memo completed before you leave;
or it’s a fire-drill project assigned a day before your vacation with completion required on the day you return – a task you just can’t believe.
In our current world, being constantly connected at work appears to be the norm;
the boss requiring you to put in long hours, work after-hours, respond to texts at midnight, so the needs of your family and you must stand in line while you conform.
It’s a “nightmare in the making” – leading to increased stress, family problems, lack of time for exercise, and eating unhealthy food;
making the job your life and leaving you with little time for your mind to be renewed.
But for some, working after hours at the job is their nightlife;
they feel important, in the know, in control, and simply love being associated with their work for it makes them feel larger than life.
So, who’s perspective about working all this extra time is right?
You who wants to enjoy the sunlight or those who want to be in the spotlight?
From training with the Stoicess, you know that 100 years ago our ancestors figured out that the 8-hour day was the right guideline;
for beyond 8 hours, productivity declines, mistakes increase – all negatively impacting the company’s bottom line.
Thus, in the end, you know that an employer who wants workaholics is not for you;
so you look for an employer to work for – who like you – has thought this through.
I’m Lori Stith, The Stoicess,
AND I believe in YOU!
