Returning to God

February 10, 2022

Whether you call it backsliding, wandering, or sin, you have not been walking with God. But how do you go back to him after falling away? When you have been away from him so long, how can you go back to Him? Why should He love you again if you have been away for so long?

The last time you trusted God, you fell away. Now you have no idea how to return. The Holy Spirit nuzzles you, and you even pray to God to bring you back to Him. Is there a way to return to God once you’ve fallen away? Where do you turn after all the time and what you’ve done?

I have good news! You can get back to God no matter how long or far you have wandered from Him. The truth is, avoiding God is more difficult than simply returning and accepting His love.

What can you do to return to God?

  • Honesty – Admit everything to God. Although you don’t need to involve anyone else, telling a spiritual friend you can rely on may be a good idea as well.
  • Get daily time with God – Study Mark 14 and the following chapters to gain better insight regarding the Cross, 1 John for love and honesty, and James for faith in action – What changes do you need to make for Jesus to follow His example of a relationship with God? Are you grateful for the blessings God has given you? Should you apologize to God for anything? Commit to reading, praying, and obeying God every single day.
  • Ask for help – Assemble a spiritual team that can help you return to God and change your heart and life. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
  • Repent – What is it that you need to change your mind about? What must you do differently? To whom must you apologize?
  • Gratitude – Be thankful for all that God has done for you through Jesus and throughout your life. Keep these in your daily prayers!

Taking these steps will help you change your life and return to God cleansed so you can walk with Him again.
