Is Your Current Relationship One of Convenience or Endurance?

“We will always be together”, were the words shared between us. “We will never be torn apart no matter what. Our shared faith in God will keep us together ….  forever.”

But times change.  One of you will be going away for a good bit of time, whether it be for the job, college, military, mission work, or the peace corps.
Thousands of miles apart with few communication times,  and weeks to months without seeing one another. You guess it’s time we break up, right? Or is it?

The unknown can be scary in itself. Anxiety, stress, and fear can quickly set in. Add to that being apart for a time from a loved one can cause a real strain on the relationship—a strain that challenges any reasonable person in deciding whether to continue the relationship or have a hiatus until the partner’s return. Worries of faithfulness, worries of injury, and worries of disinterest by your partner or yourself enter the mind.

However, from training with the Stoicess, you know to focus on yourself and the standards that rule your life. You ask yourself, “Is this a relationship of endurance or mere convenience?” The answer is the gauge you’re using to decide your mental strength to keep your relationship vibrant and strong. And if you know you are strong and will make it through this challenge, your partner will do so as well.

And how do you know this?

It’s because you and your partner have trained together for years with the Stoicess and have learned how to handle whatever life throws at you. So, no challenge the two of you face together is that surprising or unsurmountable.

Each of you is the other’s strength.

Each of you is the other’s life.

Because you built this relationship on a rock – a “Rock of God Mind”.

Now using My S-T-O-I-C STORYTELLING Meditation method:

(S) My partner and I will be apart for a time, should we break up?
(T) “The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.” Epictetus
“And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” Jesus
(O) My partner and I decided to stay together because our relationship is built on the Rock of God.
(I) We realized we were going into unfamiliar territory, but by having God by our side, we would remain strong.
(C) The character trait that I improved was being thankful to have such steady and solid support.

The Stoicess’ Secret:

For a relationship of endurance, build a “Rock of God Mind” for reverence.
