It all seemed like a fairy tale come true,
every day together was a sky painted bright blue.
The days were as if we were in Camelot to stay,
joined together at the hip as each day we happily played.
We laughed, we sang, we held hands, we daily teased,
we were at the pinnacle of enjoying life together as we pleased.
Then one morning a thunderbolt struck my heart,
you sent me a text saying we needed to be apart.
For another you had found that was your true love indeed,
our time together was nice, you said, but not lasting for it had no seed.
So, you broke up with me and said we could still be friends,
that cold shoulder approach, I thought, as you tried to make amends.
My mind went blank. I was devastated. The humiliation I felt,
what a waste of time with such a poor hand I’d been dealt.
However, I remembered the Psalm that says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted,” which also applies to those who are softhearted.
So, I realized I may have lost you in my day-to-day existence,
but I’d never lose those feelings we created, even if we are now distant.
For this “puppy love” we shared is truly a blessing and a curse,
those wonderful feelings are such a high until my heart bursts, once we disperse.
However, I now know the feeling another must arise in me to gain my favor,
it’s that “puppy love” high that I will always savor.
