Cannot Get Up For Work

Cannot Get Up For Work

Cannot Get Up For Work.

The alarm is buzzing, but you feel like you just went to bed. It’s dark out, getting colder each day, and the drive to the office is exhausting.

And then there’s the work once you’ve arrived. You’re so behind. The boss keeps piling on the work and you’re at least a week behind on the assignment due tomorrow. Even worse, you’ll be facing the boss today at your biweekly one-on-one with no idea of how you’re going to explain being behind.

You’re tired. You’re cooked. You’re done. Your life is in shambles. You just can’t face this day.

For you, you’ve struggled from time to time in your career with “those days” that appear impossible. The bed feels warm and snug. All is perfect here. You’re protected from that cruel world outside.

And then Mother Nature calls and you’re reminded that try as you may, your body will require you to perform your duty. As you roll over and gaze out the window, you see the sun rising – a reminder that God’s creation is waiting for you.

So, you arise and tend to your body – brushing your teeth, getting a shower – simply preparing yourself for the day. And you say a prayer to our Father in heaven for giving you another day to live. For you realize you’re blessed to have the day you have been given by God because this day could be your last.

Have you ever wondered why there are only so many squirrels in your neighborhood or birds in the sky? Have you ever considered that maybe it’s because there is only so much life that God allows to be present at any one time?

And if that be true, then why did God choose to allow you to have another day, this day, instead of replacing you with a newborn?

So as your body reminds of your duties to it, the mere fact that you woke up this morning reminds you of your duties to God.

The requirement to live a Christian life and bring souls to God as Christ commanded.

The requirement of helping others, strengthening their minds and your own, as we all work toward being better soldiers for God.

And as you arrive at the office, you reset your expectations for the day and simply do your best in answering the boss for the assignments given. For today could be your last and you will cherish each moment accordingly, and that includes those few uncomfortable moments you must face when in bed.

You will serve the Lord today; to please Him for allowing you to have yet another day of life before replacing you with another. What good deeds you perform, you will give all glory to our Father above.

“Thank you, my Father, for allowing me to be here another day. “

Now using My S-T-O-I-C Storytelling Meditation method:

(S) I have a hard time getting up for work; what should I do?

(T) “When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive.” Marcus Aurelius
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.” Jesus

(O) I decided to be thankful every day that I awake, … that I am given another day to live.

(I) I realized not everyone will wake up today and be able to go out and make a difference in the world.

(C) The character trait I improved was thankfulness to the Lord for choosing me to be here another day.

The Stoicess’ Secret:

Judge your last day on earth from the comfort of your bed.
