The end of the semester left your mind spinning,
but the party was finally beginning.
The exams were over – fabulous Friday was here,
It was time to party, and party hearty you did with great cheer.
You hadn’t had so much fun since the last semester ended,
it was as if your world had changed and your life moving forward would now be splendid.
However, as the party scene came to a close,
you gazed about and saw the mess that arose.
A mess the others had left behind,
thinking it was not on them to straighten up the place as they found it, as a duty to mankind.
You thought to yourself, “I didn’t make this mess. It’s not my fault”,
but as you headed toward your car, your mind stopped you, and you came to a sudden halt.
You see, common sense told you, you had a duty to perform,
a duty to leave the area as you found it, putting it back to its norm.
So, you spent the next few hours cleaning the garbage from the lawn,
putting things in their rightful place, as others were looking on.
And as you walked toward your car, a mother with her two children entered the park,
the little girl came over to speak to you – “Mommy said to tell you Thank you. We can now play because it’s all clean” was the child’s remark.
A tear came to your eye as you gazed at the mother,
she nodded in appreciation with a big smile, one like no other.
As you left the park, you remembered our Lord’s law,
“Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them” and you should do it without flaw.
For it was not personal glory that you gained from this event,
it was simply doing your duty as a neighbor, a citizen, and a friend with exceeding good intent.
