We were becoming close, and I thought we had a thing going on,
but little did I know that your charm was merely a put-on.
So, I took the next step and put myself out there,
testing the water, so to speak, as I laid my soul bare.
I slid a Valentine’s card into your locker on that precious day,
bearing my heart before you as I hoped we were on our way.
My innermost feelings I shared with your eyes only,
your response to my sacred thoughts, most would say, was quite uncomely.
For my act of love missed the mark,
the response you gave came out of the dark.
You held up the card for all to see,
while yelling out “No Way” in the loudest degree.
You then wrote angry words on my precious card,
tacked it to my locker for all to see, so I would be deeply scarred.
The embarrassment I felt as I stood there in shock,
colleagues laughing at me while I took their mock.
I then remembered Micah’s words in the scripture, to put no confidence in a friend,
for in God should our trust be placed, He is the only one on whom we can depend.
So, I asked for God’s help to get me through this fray,
my prayer was answered when He sent another my way.
For another was watching that had their heart for me,
said they knew the card was for them, as I smiled with much glee.
And those mocking me quickly departed,
leaving me with this someone who was so good-hearted.
He took me to dinner- we had a wonderful time together,
a Christian man with a heart of gold who carried me through such foul weather.
He now is mine, and I am now his,
that horrible mistake I made, turned into the best date ever … Gee-Whiz.
