Stoicess’ Poem: Jealousy

I was thinking about my partner and how he was such a great find,
then thought about my friends and how they were getting into my mind.

You see, they all seem jealous of the relationship we created,
constantly teasing, flirting with him, letting him know they are awaited.

One slip up by me, and at their doorstep, they tell him to come,
as I stand there listening to their goading as if I am so dumb.

I look into his eyes, and steadfastness I do see,
no thrill or excitement that I’d possibly see in me.

Because let’s be honest, there must be temptation there,
something new, different, interesting, there must be some flare.

Yet unmoved and calm, he continues to remain,
head held high, eyes straight forward, nothing going against the grain.

I did some self-reflection looking deeply into my soul,
considering my actions in life and how I viewed them as a whole.

I realized I also have been hit on by others in my life,
but I ignored the catcalls and kept my gait straightforward, for neither am I such a lowlife.

So, what’s this suspicion, this trust issue I am now facing?
it’s apparently a feeling of being risk-averse – a fear of losing someone who, to me, is all-embracing.

I then realized such jealousy is simply nature’s way of reminding me to be thankful for what I have received,
and not let my mind go wild over someone new with ideas that are ill-conceived.

For “Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?” per the Book of Proverbs, a verse of the Bible’s command,
I must repeat these words constantly to myself so I can overcome and withstand.

And I know few can stand as strong as my current mirror,
a person from whom I receive strength as we grow even nearer.

He has learned I am his chosen ONE,
the one who will guide him in the long run.

And for me, I will settle my mind and remove this air of doubt,
refocus my mind knowing things between us will always pan out.

Because there’s no one stronger for him than me,
and there’s no one stronger for me than he.

A mirror to each other we will always be,
that no one can crack or shatter – we both wholly agree.
