With all the relationships I have had,
I’ve over-analyzed each, much more than a tad.
I didn’t trust my own abilities,
so outside events were filled with such hostilities.
My partner intriguingly looking at a passerby,
disturbed my mind to the point that I could just cry.
“Are they about to dump me”, my mind goes wild,
as the passerby returns a gaze that seems so beguiled.
Negative emotions I read into his words as if he said something mean,
I just can’t help it – I want a relationship based on MY terms that’s pristine.
My mind continually overloading with the “what coulds” and the “what ifs’,
instead of considering his time with me as one of God’s greatest gifts.
So, in the end, I miss out on the good times of the day,
spoiled all those precious moments with the slander that I spray.
But with the Stoicess’ help, I regained my focus when faced with a runaway mind,
Now I know what to look for in a Trusted Friend, so we can remain mentally intertwined.
As the book of Proverbs tells me, a Trusted Friend awakens my heart with joy,
this friendship refreshes the soul – it’s a bond made of the strongest alloy.
Now, during the day, I adopt a “no analyzing” mentality,
for my trying to fix what may not be broken once led to much brutality.
When I return home in the evening, this is my time to train and overanalyze,
when I’m not in the heat of the imaginary battle, and my mind has time to surmise.
And as bedtime nears, my mind is now highly mettled,
I’ll face tomorrow with my new abilities, for my mind linked with God, is no longer unsettled.
