Stoicess’ Poem: Seeking Guidance.

I was perplexed and needed a helping hand,
people around me felt it and tried to help me understand.

“What’s wrong? We can help”, was the plea from those appearing concerned,
“A little time is what is needed”, I responded as their impatience toward me burned.

A simple problem with a quick fix was their interpretation,
a bigger problem that would take more time was causing me much frustration.

“Oh, just do this or simply say that” were the words of wisdom I received,
a hopeless venture into the unknown was the path from their words I perceived.

For their answer only moved the problem down the road,
a plan of action, a better outcome in store was my goal in facing the current crossroad.

I thought to myself, “why am I so eager to hear the opinions of others”,
particularly ones I have never perceived as being close to me, like a sister or brother.

Am I looking for someone to pat me on the back—pet me—to make me feel better?
if so, I’ve come to the wrong place, for their advice will likely place me in fetters.

I’ve also found that if I accept the opinion of another,
I had better be prepared to follow their suggestion like no other.

For if I do not follow their suggestion to a tee,
any mistake I make for not following their guidance, they will directly place on me.

So, I sat there, looking in my glass for some hope of mental clarity,
as the world spun around me while offering me little sincerity.

As I looked around the room, I noticed another sitting quietly in the corner,
barely noticeable, but having an eye on me, one to help me build my armor.

For a passerby, a so-called friend, this person’s association was not with me,
but a Trusted friend was onlooking as quietly as he could be.

I moved to his table and asked him why he was here,
he said he heard his dearest friend was in need, so he came to offer some cheer.

The Bible tells us that a true friend loveth at all times,
they are not a fair-weather friend who is only with us sometimes.

He gently touched my face and said, “I’m always here for you,
I’ve always got your back, you’re always in my view.”

A tear ran down my cheek as I thanked him for coming as I was hiding in the weeds,
my angel that God had sent to find and guide me, in my time of desperate need.
