The Bible is the best-selling book of all time, but there are a lot of different translations and versions. Remember, the main point of reading it is so you apply what you read by meditating on His Word. If you’re looking for a Bible for use in your meditation sessions, we’ve compiled a short list of translation options to help you in your study of the Word of God.
The Holman Christian Standard Bible had a team of more than 100 scholars from 17 denominations and was completed in 2004. This version of the Bible had two requirements for every translation decision. One, that each word must be faithful to the original language and two, that each word must reflect clear, contemporary English.
In 2017 the Christian Standard Bible was produced as a revision and replacement for the Holman Christian Standard Bible. This version has received high marks for accuracy. The Christian Standard Bible retains the strength of the Holman Christian Standard Bible while removing its idiosyncrasies.
The English Standard Version (ESV) was translated by a team of more than 100 evangelical Christian scholars and pastors and was first published in 2008. The ESV Bible emphasizes word-for-word accuracy and literary excellence. The ESV is weighed against the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts to ensure the fullest accuracy and clarity and avoids under-translating or overlooking various nuances in the original text. The ESV captures the exact wording of the original text as well as the personal style of each author.
The New King James was published in 1982 by 130 Bible scholars, church leaders, and lay Christians. This version of the Bible retains the purity and stylistic beauty of the original King James Version and is faithful to the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic texts. It updates the archaic language of the King James Version and is a good word-for-word translation.
These versions of the Bible are easy to read for modern times and are a great option for believers who want to learn the truth of God’s Word.
