How do I know if he will wait for me?

If you’re in a long-distance relationship or facing a period of separation, you may be wondering if your partner is willing to wait for you. While there’s no surefire way to know for certain, there are some signs  based on my Christian Intentional Dating guidelines that can indicate whether or not your partner is truly committed to waiting for you. Also, there are ways to test his commitment without jeopardizing your relationship. Read on to learn more about the signs and tests I’ve put together for your consideration.

Signs to Look For

He Talks About the Future

One of the biggest signs that he’s willing to wait for you is if he talks about the future with you. This could include making plans for when you’re reunited, discussing long-term goals together, or even just mentioning things he wants to do with you in the future. If he’s actively including you in his plans and seems excited about the future, it’s a good indication that he’s committed to the relationship and willing to wait for you.

He Makes an Effort to Stay in Touch

Communication is key in any relationship, and if he’s making an effort to stay in touch with you while you’re apart, it’s a good sign that he’s willing to wait for you. This could include regular phone calls, texts, or video chats, as well as sending care packages or letters. If he’s putting in the effort to maintain a strong connection with you, it shows that he values the relationship and is committed to making it work, even if you’re not physically together.

He’s Supportive of Your Goals and Dreams

A man who is willing to wait for you will be supportive of your goals and dreams, even if they don’t align with his own. He will encourage you to pursue your passions and will be there to cheer you on every step of the way. He won’t try to hold you back or make you feel guilty for wanting to achieve your dreams, but instead will be your biggest supporter and motivator. If he’s willing to put your happiness and success first, it’s a good sign that he’s in it for the long haul.

He’s Willing to Compromise

A man who is willing to wait for you will also be willing to compromise. Relationships require give and take, and he will understand that sometimes he will need to make sacrifices for the sake of the relationship. He won’t always insist on having his way or getting what he wants, but will be open to finding a solution that works for both of you. If he’s willing to meet you halfway and work together to find a compromise, it’s a good sign that he’s committed to making the relationship work in the long term.

He Shows Consistency in His Actions and Words

One of the biggest signs that he will wait for you is consistency in his actions and words. If he says he will call you, he follows through. If he promises to take you out on a date, he makes it happen. He doesn’t make excuses or cancel plans last minute. This shows that he values your time and is committed to building a strong foundation for the relationship. Consistency is key in any relationship, and if he’s consistent in his actions and words, it’s a good sign that he’s in it for the long haul.

He communicates openly and honestly about his feelings

One of the biggest signs that your partner is willing to wait for you is if they communicate openly and honestly about their feelings. If they are willing to have difficult conversations and express their emotions, it shows that they are invested in the relationship and willing to work through any challenges that may arise. On the other hand, if they avoid talking about their feelings or seem distant, it may be a sign that they are not as committed to waiting for you.

He respects your boundaries and timeline

A partner who is willing to wait for you will respect your boundaries and timeline. They will not pressure you into doing anything you are not comfortable with and will understand if you need more time to make decisions. They will also be patient and supportive as you work through any personal issues or challenges that may be impacting the relationship. If your partner is constantly pushing you to move faster than you are ready to, it may be a sign that they are not truly committed to waiting for you.

He makes an effort to stay connected and involved in your life

One sign that he is truly committed to waiting for you is that he makes an effort to stay connected and involved in your life. This could mean regularly checking in with you, asking about your day, and showing interest in your hobbies and interests. He may also make plans to spend time with you, even if it’s just a phone call or video chat. If he is willing to put in the effort to maintain a strong connection with you, it’s a good indication that he is committed to waiting for you.

He is patient and understanding when things don’t go as planned

Another sign that he is willing to wait for you is that he is patient and understanding when things don’t go as planned. Life can be unpredictable, and there may be times when you are unable to stick to your original timeline for various reasons. If he is willing to be flexible and understanding when these situations arise, it shows that he values your relationship and is committed to making it work, even if it takes longer than expected. Look for signs of patience and understanding in his words and actions to know if he’s truly willing to wait for you.

He is willing to make sacrifices and compromises for the relationship

A man who is truly committed to waiting for you will be willing to make sacrifices and compromises for the relationship. This means that he will prioritize your needs and wants, even if it means putting his own desires on hold. He will be willing to make changes in his life to accommodate your timeline and will work with you to find solutions that work for both of you. Look for signs of flexibility and willingness to compromise in his behavior to know if he’s truly committed to waiting for you.

Tests to Apply

Communicate Your Needs and Expectations

The first step in testing if your partner will wait for you is to communicate your needs and expectations clearly. Let him know that you need some time to focus on yourself and that you want to make sure your relationship can withstand this time apart. Be honest about your concerns and fears, and ask him to be honest with you as well. This will help you both understand each other’s needs and expectations and set the foundation for a strong and healthy relationship.

Give Him Space and Time to Think

Once you have communicated your needs and expectations, it’s important to give your partner space and time to think. This means not constantly checking in on him or bombarding him with messages and calls. Allow him to process his thoughts and feelings and come to his own decision about whether he is willing to wait for you. Remember, this is a test of his patience and commitment, so it’s important to give him the opportunity to show you what he is capable of.

Observe His Actions and Reactions

One of the best ways to test if he will wait for you without losing him is to observe his actions and reactions. Does he continue to make an effort to communicate with you and spend time with you, even if it’s just through virtual means? Does he show understanding and support for your need for space and time? Does he respect your boundaries and not pressure you to make a decision? These are all positive signs that he may be willing to wait for you. However, if he becomes distant, avoids communication, or tries to pressure you into making a decision, it may be a sign that he is not willing to wait for you.

Be Honest and Transparent About Your Feelings

It’s important to be honest and transparent about your feelings with your partner if you want to test if he will wait for you without losing him. Let him know that you need some time and space to focus on yourself and your personal growth. Explain why this is important to you and how it will benefit your relationship in the long run. By being open and honest, you give him the opportunity to understand your perspective and make an informed decision about whether he is willing to wait for you. Remember, communication is key in any relationship.

Making Your Final Decision

Ultimately, it’s important to trust your gut and make a decision about what is best for you. If you feel like you need time and space to focus on yourself, then take it. If your partner is willing to wait for you and support you during this time, then that’s great. But if he is not willing to wait or is not supportive of your decision, then it may be time to reevaluate the relationship. Remember, your mental and emotional well-being should always come first.
